Paid For by Committee To Elect Derek Partee Mayor
Protecting our town and our homes from aggressive development.
Huntersville, NC, has experienced rapid growth in recent decades, leading to concerns among residents about overdevelopment and its potential impacts on infrastructure, traffic, green space, and quality of life.
The rapid growth in Huntersville has created tensions between the desire for economic development and the preservation of the town's character and infrastructure. Residents continue to advocate for responsible development that addresses the concerns about traffic, schools, green space, and overall quality of life.
DEREK L. PARTEE, MPA
Derek Partee is a dedicated community leader with a vision for a better future. His passion for public service drives his commitment to improving our Town.
My current community service involves serving as the Board Chairman for the Aspire Carolinas Foundation, which oversees the operations of the Dale Halton School and The Aspire Trade Charter High School, both located in Huntersville.
On November 2, 2021, I was elected to a two-year term on the Town of Huntersville Board of Commissioners. My appointed committee assignments are the NC 73 Council of Planning, the Planning Coordinating Committee, the Police Liaison, the Parks Committee, and the Greenways, Bikeways, and Trails Committee.
My public service experience spans 36 years, during which I worked for the Town of Hempstead and Nassau County on Long Island, NY. From January 1984 to October 2007, I served with the Nassau County Police Department, retiring after 23 years of service at the rank of Detective. I am certified and experienced in conducting criminal investigations in the areas of auto crimes, dignitary protection, gang violence, homicides, narcotics, sexual offenses, and special weapons tactical responses.
I was honored to be the first Detective in the history of the Nassau County Police Department to be assigned to the FBI Joint Terrorist Task Force (JTTF) in the Manhattan Office from 1999 - 2003. On September 11, 2001, I was present when the horrific attack on the World Trade Center Towers occurred and was involved in the Twin Bomb investigation.
My last assignment was in the Nassau County Homicide Squad from 2003 - 2007, where I retired with a 100% solvability and conviction rate.
Upon moving to North Carolina in 2010, I obtained my Private Investigator's license and consulted for Carolina Fingerprinting/Citywide Investigations, located in Waxhaw, NC.

Between 2016 and 2021, under the leadership of former Mayor John Anarella and Dan Boone on the Huntersville Town Board, this town experienced rapid development across its entire area.
This rapid growth of huge factory flex spaces, rental apartments, and homes is destroying our green spaces, beautiful tree canopies, birds, and wildlife sanctuaries.
The heavy vehicular traffic pattern on our primary and secondary roads is a result of the wild rush to sell off land and build construction projects overlapping each other.
My campaign issues for this election are as follows:
1) Suspend the rezoning process on new developments for one year. This is to allow all present construction projects to advance toward completion, thereby easing our town's road infrastructure and crowded traffic patterns.
2) Work with the Town managers to assess the needs of our Fire, Police, and local hospital emergency services departments to provide life-saving services to meet the population growth.
3) The need to have CMS prioritize building schools to meet the influx of students from these rental communities and owner-occupied homes in our Town.
These three goals can be realistically achieved within the two years of the next administration. I am asking for your vote to be the Mayor to do just that.
"FOLLOW THE MONEY"
Just like in the North Carolina State Legislature, representatives who receive large donations have tried to rip away local governance and control land use development, giving the power to developers.
